April 11, 1965 is still remembered by many: that day a brutal string of tornados hit the states of Iowa, Indiana, and Michigan with wind gusts as high as 318 miles per hour, killing 250 people and injuring some 1500 others. The first funnel cloud hit the ground at 1 p.m. with others following at varying intervals, up to 5:30 pm. The storms intensified as they day progressed. An F4 storm hit Koontz Lake, Indiana and 2 other twisters hit Wakarusa, and Goshen, doing massive damage to homes, and local infrastructure.
More storms continued to develop over the course of that same day. The worst of the tornados, an F5 storm with winds reaching speeds of up to 318 miles per hour landed at Elkhart Indiana and destroyed the Sunnyside subdivision killing over 30 people. One of the funnel clouds was a colossal eight hundred yards wide, leaving a trail of devastation in its path. Telephone and electrical lines where knocked out by the high winds. The phone system was down and, as a result, local city officials where unable to warn others in the path of the storm of the severe danger. The day progressed and tornados hit many other counties. The damage from all these rapidly occurring storms was devastating.
The impact that these storms had on the area was huge. The U.S. weather bureau conducted a full investigation after the storm and established the need for better methods to communicate warnings to residents and officials in other areas of approaching storms. It was just a little while after this that the Weather Service started to put out announcements indicating that tornados where likely to form and where they were traveling once they had hit the ground.
The economic consequences of these storms were felt in all three states. Houses where completely destroyed, and all the major utilities took damage. Local businesses had to close and effect repairs and millions of dollars had to be spent to clean up the mess that was left by the roving storms. The loss of business and personal information alone can hardly be calculated.
Once again local residents and business across the three states where caught by surprise and hurt or killed as a result. Tornados by there very natures are extremely hard to forecast. Unlike other storms that can be seen as they approach, a tornado can, in effect, form right on top of you and hit you when you least expect it. The need to take proper precautions is essential to ensuring the safety of local residents and businesses. Yet even that may not be enough. Protecting your own business infrastructure, records and information can be an essential component to your own recovery process in the event a major disaster strikes.

Needless to say, your average car is not going to be able to withstand the enormous forces of a tornado, and the best advice is always to get as far away as possible if you see cyclones strike. It’s not just the whirlwind itself that can be damaging, as it’s almost always accompanied by other adverse weather effects, such as thunderstorms and rain or hail. Even if you get some distance from the tornado itself, that doesn’t mean there won’t still be powerful and damaging wind.
Protecting yourself and your loved ones is vital in the event of a tornado, but escaping in your car is not a guarantee of safety. Falling hail and debris could damage your windshield or worse, and a windshield repair quote will be the last thing on your mind as you struggle on disorienting, slippery roads away from the cyclone. If you know a sturdy structure that can withstand the effects of a tornado, the best advice is to take refuge there until it passes.
If you do go out chasing storms, make sure you’re in the company of someone who’s experienced, as they will likely know what to do in the event that something goes wrong. Generally speaking, you should be safe as long as you keep your distance and ensure there’s a clear and open escape route. Chasing storms does not mean exposing yourself to unnecessary dangers, and as for capturing images and helping meteorological understanding of tornadoes, this is something best left to the experts and their customised vehicles.

Tornados Are an Instrument Used By Satan
The Devil and his demon generals sat on one side of a huge cosmic table while Jesus and His angels of light sat across from them. An argument was proceeding from the great voice of Satan demanding that Jesus let go of His protection over the people of the earth. Satan shouted, “Release the storms you have held back from me, for I must test the people of earth!”
It was an unusually warm and humid February day. I had never experienced such a dramatic change of temperature from frigid cold one moment to the feelings of spring the next. An alarm sounded in the distance and within a few seconds sirens echoed through the town announcing an impending tornado.
I motioned to my wife and children that we needed to go to our safe room. The kids whined, begging me to let them finish their video game. But I was unyielding making them turn it off. In defiance my teenage son angrily shouted, “It’s just another false alarm, we’re perfectly safe!” I wanted to give in so there wasn’t another fight, but a Holy Spirit urgency permeated my subconscious and urged me to take cover now!
Colossians 2: 6&7, “Since you have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, live in union with him. Keep your roots deep in him, build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving.”
“Satan may be god over the earth which gives him the power to use storms to hurt people, but we must warn and help those who call upon my name.” Jesus stated to the Angels of light. All in one accord a flutter of thousands of angels took flight towards the earth fighting through the legion of demons that stood blocking their paths.
Outside we could hear the wind blowing fiercely, and the branches snapping off the trees. I looked across at my wife and together we bowed our heads in prayer. All of a sudden our home began to shake and the basement that we hid in lurched upward as if a hand had reached down from the blackened sky and grabbed the house off its foundation. Quickly, I grabbed my children and forced them into the tub to protect them from falling debris while covering them with my body.
Colossians 2: 8-10, “See to it, then, that no one enslaves you by means of the worthless deceit of human wisdom, which comes from the teachings handed down by men and from the ruling spirits of the universe, and not from Christ. For the full content of divine nature lives in Christ, in his humanity, and you have been given full life in union with him. He is supreme over every spiritual ruler and authority.”
My prayers rang strong as I prayed for protection from Satan for my family and neighbors. The vibration of the Holy Spirit within my body comforted me as I continued to pray fervently.
The storm lasted only a few minutes, but the devastation left from the tornado took my breath away. Thankfully my children and I were alright, but in the midst of the storm my wife had become separated from us. I screamed her name and only silence responded back. In desperation I tossed twisted boards and furniture aside only to find her lifeless body crumbled in a corner.
Tears swelled in my eyes as I hugged my boys and comforted them over the loss of their mom. Together we lifted her body out of the basement only to see the complete devastation of our once perfect neighborhood.
All I could do was groan a prayer with words that could not be humanly spoken, but could only be conveyed from the Holy Spirit that lived within me. “Help Me Jesus!” Warmth surrounded my body and a soft voice whispered comforting words within my conscience. A strength I had never known before filled my soul making me stand firm and know that Jesus was beside me and He would never let me go.
Colossians 2:13-15, “You were at one time spiritually dead because of your sins and because you were Gentiles without the Law. But God has now brought you to life with Christ. God forgave us all our sins; he canceled the unfavorable record of our debts with its binding rules and did away with it completely by nailing it to the cross. And on that cross Christ freed himself from the power of the spiritual rulers and authorities; he made a public spectacle of them by leading them as captives in his victory procession.”
I was in shock as I gazed at the wreckage of twisted and scattered houses and turned over cars and trucks. The manicured lawns were filled with household belongings, twisted trees, and broken limbs. I saw my neighbors coming out of their leveled homes, some carried dead family members and others didn’t even have a scratch.
It wasn’t long before firemen arrived to shift through the debris and find other survivors who were penned inside their crumbled homes. I could hear a helicopter and before I knew what was happening a newsman was asking me what happened and how I escaped.
The words that flowed from by mouth were not my words. It was as if for that moment in time when I had lost so much that Jesus knew what I needed to say to be free from the devastating pain I just went through. I hugged my children and together we proclaimed to the newsman that Jesus saved us from the tornado. As the movie cameras intently fixed upon our faces I spoke words of praise and thanked Jesus Christ for allowing us to suffer for Him!
The newsman was shocked for he had learned moments before the interview that I had not only lost all our possessions, but also my beloved wife in the storm. He prodded me with still more questions and I began by telling him about my faith and how I believed that someday I would see my wife again in Heaven.
1 Thessalonians 4: 13&14, “Our brothers, we want you to know the truth about those who have died, so that you will not be sad, as are those who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in him.”
1 Thessalonians 4: 16-18, “There will be the shout of command, the archangel’s voice, the sound of God’s trumpet, and the Lord himself will come down from heaven. Those who have died believing in Christ will rise to life first; then we who are living at that time will be gathered up along with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. So then, encourage one another with these words.”
